Austrian's history of postal transport goes far back, almost 2000 years. At that time, the Roman province administration and military were regularly supplied with news and orders from Rome. This first, regular and safe postal service came to an end in the Middle Ages and was only put back into service by Emperor Maximilian I towards the end of the 15th century with its first route from Belgium to Italy. This way, the sending of private mail was also permitted and the regular connection proved to be a success in the shortest possible time. From this first permanent postal connection in Europe, Austrian Post Ag ultimately developed, which has been listed on the Austrian Stock Exchange since May 2006. Since its humble beginnings at the end of the 15th century, there have been repeated innovations that have gained global acceptance. These include the worlds first postmark (1787), the concept of the postage stamp (1836) or the postcard (1869). With the issue of the world's first crypto stamp, Austrian Post has once again recognized the signs of the times and, as so often before, has identified itself as a pioneer of new technical achievements and innovative ideas.
